The 2022 fourth-generation 11-inch iPad Pro includes Apple's M2 chip, a ProMotion display and a Thunderbolt/USB 4 connector. A strong setup pairs that power with the correct Pencil, keyboard, storage and display accessories rather than buying incompatible newer accessories.
Confirm you own the fourth-generation 11-inch model
In Settings > General > About, check the model rather than assuming all 11-inch iPad Pros share the same chip and keyboard. The fourth generation launched in 2022 with M2. It is distinct from the 2021 third-generation M1 and newer M4/M5 models. Cases and keyboards should explicitly support the 11-inch third/fourth-generation chassis where relevant.
Select the right Apple Pencil
Apple Pencil (2nd generation) attaches magnetically to the side of this iPad to pair and charge and supports pressure-sensitive drawing and double-tap in compatible apps. Apple sold 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions. The 128GB/256GB variants may be adequate for office documents, browsing and many drawing tasks. Large raw photo libraries, video and professional project files can justify more capacity. The 1TB and 2TB versions also have more memory than smaller storage tiers in Apple's original specs, but software and workflow requirements matter more than the numbers alone.
Use the Thunderbolt port correctly
The Thunderbolt/USB 4 port supports charging and high-speed connections to compatible drives, docks and displays. Check the cable and adapter specifications: a USB-C plug does not guarantee Thunderbolt speeds or display features. For an external monitor, use a suitable USB-C or Thunderbolt cable and check the display-resolution and multitasking limits of your installed iPadOS and apps.
Make the setup comfortable and secure
Pair a precisely compatible Magic Keyboard or another suitable keyboard case if you type often. A stand and screen protector may help desk use; choose a texture that suits Pencil friction. Configure Face ID, Apple Account security, Find My, backups and app permissions. On a refurbished device, inspect Face ID, charging, speaker output, camera focus, Pencil pairing and battery performance before buying.
