The ninth-generation iPad is a practical 10.2-inch tablet for school, household browsing and handwritten notes. Its setup is straightforward, but it uses older Lightning and first-generation Apple Pencil accessories, so checking compatibility saves money and frustration.
Choose 64GB or 256GB for your needs
64GB is often workable for web browsing, Notes, a limited number of apps and streaming. Offline games, downloaded series, school files, photos and creative projects can fill that space quickly. If the iPad is for a student sharing many files or a household with several large apps, 256GB may be the more comfortable choice if the price difference is reasonable. Neither model supports a microSD card for expanding installed app storage.
Pair Apple Pencil (1st generation)
Apple Pencil 1 connects and pairs through Lightning on this model. Remove the Pencil cap, attach it to the compatible Lightning port for initial pairing, and follow the prompt. Check that the Pencil itself is charged; older or heavily used Pencil batteries may need servicing or replacement.
