iPhone 12, 13 and 14 all use 6.1-inch OLED displays, 5G, Face ID, Lightning and MagSafe, but their chips, storage starting points, camera features and original battery ratings are different. The best refurbished iPhone is not always the newest one: its actual price, battery health and condition determine the value.

Display and everyday performance
All three have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with the same nominal resolution and Lightning charging. iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 have a higher typical maximum display brightness than iPhone 12. iPhone 12's A14 is still capable of everyday calls, browsing and supported apps. The A15 in iPhone 13 and 14 offers a newer platform; the standard 14 uses a five-core GPU version compared with iPhone 13's four-core GPU. Ordinary users may notice battery and camera differences more than chip benchmarks.
Camera differences worth paying for
All have dual rear cameras with a main and ultra-wide lens. iPhone 13 introduces sensor-shift optical image stabilisation for the main camera and Photographic Styles. iPhone 14 adds Photonic Engine processing, Action mode for stabilised video and autofocus on the front TrueDepth camera. If you rarely record moving video or take low-light photos, iPhone 13 may offer much of what you need without the extra hardware benefits of 14.
Battery ratings are not refurbished battery promises
Apple's original controlled video-playback ratings are up to 17 hours on iPhone 12, 19 hours on 13 and 20 hours on 14. Those figures describe suitable new-device test conditions, not what a three- to six-year-old refurbished battery will deliver. Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health, the maximum capacity and any service notification. A healthy iPhone 12 can be a better practical buy than a heavily worn iPhone 14, depending on price and use.
Storage and charging compatibility
The standard iPhone 12 was sold in 64/128/256GB, while iPhone 13 and 14 start at 128GB and offer 256/512GB. 64GB can be restrictive for a large photo library, games or downloads. All three use Lightning rather than USB-C and support MagSafe wireless charging, compatible magnetic cases and mounts. Avoid assuming the cable, charger or protective case is included without checking the particular refurbished listing.
Software support and buying safety
Apple lists all three on the iOS 26 compatibility list. Some software features differ by model and future major releases are never guaranteed. Inspect Face ID, cellular connection, Wi-Fi, cameras, microphones, speakers and charging, and check that Activation Lock is cleared. Confirm any mobile network restrictions, physical SIM/eSIM compatibility and returns policy. Water resistance may decline over time and must not be treated as fully preserved on a refurbished device.
