Is 64GB Enough for an iPad? 64GB vs 128GB vs 256GB for Real Use
A 64GB iPad can suit a light-use routine, but it is not automatically the best-value purchase. If you regularly download games, films or large project files, choosing more storage at the start can save frequent housekeeping later.

Measure before you guess
On an existing iPad, go to Settings, General, then iPad Storage. Apple's storage view shows usage by app and content category. It also distinguishes offloading an app, which keeps its documents and data, from deleting it and its related data.
Write down your current usage and the largest categories. Then ask what will change. A tablet moving from casual home browsing to a college course may need a different allowance from the device you use today. Leave room for the operating system, app growth and temporary working files rather than buying a capacity that barely matches today's total.
When 64GB can be reasonable
Our editorial recommendation is to consider 64GB for a clearly defined, light workload: browsing, reading, a modest set of apps and little permanently downloaded entertainment. It makes most sense for someone happy to review downloads regularly.
For example, a buyer currently using about 20GB has more room to consider 64GB than someone already using around 55GB. These examples are planning scenarios, not promised usable capacities. App sizes and system requirements vary.
Why 128GB is a useful middle option
Where the model offers it, 128GB gives more flexibility for a mixed routine without requiring the largest capacity. We would put it on the shortlist for someone who wants several downloaded programmes, study files and a broader app collection.
Do not pay for 128GB at the expense of a feature you actually need, however. A newer or differently sized iPad with that storage may have different Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard compatibility. Compare the complete device, not just the number in the storage column.
When to consider 256GB
We would favour a closer look at 256GB when you keep large games, many offline downloads or substantial creative files on the device. It can also suit someone who wants to keep the iPad for several years without managing space closely every month.
You still need a backup plan. Having a larger local drive protects you from neither accidental deletion nor a lost tablet. Separate the question of how much you can store from how you will preserve important files.
What about iCloud?
Apple explains that photos and videos take device space and that iCloud Photos can help manage a library with optimised storage. Cloud capacity and the iPad's built-in capacity are still different things. Apps, locally downloaded files and working content continue to matter.
For travel or unreliable connections, plan around what must be available offline. Do not assume that a cloud subscription makes the smallest iPad equally convenient for every task.
Spend on capacity or condition?
If the choice is between more storage in Good condition and less storage in Pristine, decide which compromise you will notice most.
